EFCC arrests OSOPADEC chairman, others

By Peter Dada, Akure
The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Wednesday, arrested the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission, Mr. Johnson Ogunyemi.
The operatives also arrested the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Dr. Dipo Durojaiye; the Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Sola Orisamoluwa; and the Director of Account, Mr. Vincent Ikuomola.
It was gathered that the officials of the anti-graft agency stormed the premises of OSOPADEC at Oba-Ile, Akure, in the Akure North Local Government Area of the state at about 12noon and arrested the top officers at the administrative building of the commission.
During the operation, no vehicle was allowed into the premises as the main gate was locked up with handcuffs while armed policemen were at the gate manning the gate.
When our correspondent visited the OSOPADEC office, the chairman and other arrested officials were seen being taken away by the EFCC operatives in a white 14-seater Toyota bus while two Hilux vans followed.
The development disrupted official work at the commission for some hours as members of staff of the agency came outside their offices to watch the drama.
A senior official of the commission, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the reasons for the arrest of the management staff had not been established.
He said, “Honestly, we just saw those EFCC men in our premises this afternoon, going to the chairman’s office. But I believe that the arrest might be in connection with some alleged mismanagement in the commission.”
The Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said he had yet to get the details of the arrest when contacted on Wednesday.

Adetona, The Awujale & Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Adetona Road, P. O. Box 263, Ijebu Ode. The extract from your Autobiography “Awujale: The Autobiography of Alaiyeluwa Oba S. K. Adetona, Ogbagba II”, published by Mosuro Publishers 2010, pp. 187-195, which I attach to this letter was presented to me for my attention. Your assertion in the publication was a tissue of lies and untruths. Olopade is one of my best friends and yes, I would be at his birthday celebration but I would not have invited Mike, your cousin, to meet me anywhere other than my office or official residence as President of Nigeria. Kabiyesi, do you think I would set the press up to capture me and Mike in a photograph for the newspapers? That would be puerile of me as President. Of course, I could not say that Mike could not...
